Cypher is an interactive detective thriller that aims to investigate the effects of viewer control over narratives. With two separate timelines and up to four different endings, Cypher aims to push the boundaries of the detective genre by giving the viewers the ability to control how they want to approach the Cypher case. The overall aim is to engage viewers by merging elements of video games and movies to create an engaging experience
Our group was inspired by the success of interactive movies and games such as Detroit Become Human and Black Mirror and sought to create something that would challenge and engage viewers. Your choices dictate who lives and who dies as well as how different characters react to your character.
The viewer must adapt their choices to different situations to yield different outcomes. We tailored our choice system to give the user more freedom as to how to approach the case since each choice brings you down a different path.
